Rope/Line Weight? How Little is Too Little?
I've been trying to conjure up a useful, practical rig for a cablecam - I've thought that it shouldn't matter how thick or thin the cable would be and have thought about even using monofilliment line because it's lightweight and can be transported fairly easily. Has anyone tried this with a high test rate fishing line or heck, even weed whacker line?

Nope and personally I wouldn't use it.. If the line breaks just hope someone is not standing under the camera. Even a small 1 to 2lbs rig from just a few feet overhead can turn ugly really fast. This is the stuff I use: http://www.samsonrope.com/index.cfm?ind ... 192&inst=1 but it ain't cheap. However I know it's stronger than it's steel-cable counterpart and it's worth the extra peace of mind. A lesser priced alternative is to use steel-cable that's properly terminated and rigged. Rigging and safety are just as important and the type of line you choose.

Re: Rope/Line Weight? How Little is Too Little?
Does this AMsteel Blue line bounce as much cheaper line? I am upgrading from my cheap 1/4" home depot rope, and it looks like I'll probably end up with AMsteel. The characteristic I am most interested in is keeping the stretch % closest to zero, this line seems to have .96% stretch at 30% breaking strength, being one of the lowest %'s i've found. I was told to look into Endura rope, but even that is 1% at 30% breaking strength and west marine wants $2.01/ft for it, while the AMsteel is only $.76/ft. What is everyone else using? Are you satisfied with this AMsteel Blue?
I've thought about switching to steel cable, but it looks like some of these ropes are more portable, lightweight, and stronger than steel. I just wasn't sure about the bounce/stretch.... Should I look more into steel? My cable cam is used only in the winter months, so if these ropes are exactly the same as steel, i'm staying with whats warmer on the hands.
Anyone care to discuss cables and bouncing more?

I used 3/16 steel and 1/4" poly pro rope. Steel seemed to move much less, but a bitch to carry into the woods.. Steel was also alot more effort to rig into place, needed a come along.. If your filming somewhere and access is NOT a problem, I would recomend steel, otherwise some high tech rope is probably the answer..
